When I was about ten, friends of my parents invited us to spend a few weeks on their game farm. I remember my dad packing a rifle and a guitar into our car and I immediately made a very conscious decision that I would learn to play the guitar before our visit was over. I can’t remember if we even took that rifle out of the car, but I learned to play three chords on the guitar on the first day. By the time we went home again, I could still only play those three chords but I knew about a hundred songs that could be played by a ten-year-old boy who only knew three chords.
